The factory
The factory, located in the outskirts of the swedish city Malmo is a great example of innovation. Built in the late 1940’s by the former sailor Victor S. Andersson with the purpose of being a recreationspot for sailors on leave. Later it transformed from being a place for late night adventures, first into a icecream factory and since the 1980’s, a sock factory.
The two twin brothers Krister and Bent Jansson both started working at the sock factory in the early 1990's. As young men they initially didn't really like the work, however, as the years passed they developed strong feelings for the place. Both eventually got more responsibility and Krister moved from being a macinist to production manager and brother Bent his right hand assistant. Bent, the good looking of the two, also married Ulla Persson, the girl working in the
factoryshop.
One day in late 2007 a big order of red socks came in from Slovenia (a very small country). At the same time another big order for green socks came in from the national sailing organisation in Sweden. In a brief moment of confusion the orders was mixed up during packing (Krister, in charge of packing has trouble telling one color from another, especially red and green, a phenomena quite common among men). This resulted in two 40ft containers of red and green socks arriving in Slovenia. Due to cultural circumstances this combinations is not ok in Slovenia and the containers came back to the factory and these are the socks that ended up being redandgreensocks.com The sailors was of course glad for the mixup, finally they could navigate the complicated (and beautiful) Swedish archipelago without a map! |
